Brigita's art practice can be divided into four inter-related themes: the book and the word, bureaucracy, history and identity. These themes stem from her fascination with books, libraries and the impact of the word on identity.

To convey her ideas, Brigita uses a wide range of media including books, handwriting, digital media, furniture, office equipment, signwriter's vinyl and mirrored perspex. Her work usually takes the form of installation, is often text-based and site-specific, and sometimes incorporates ritualistic writing performances. Increasingly, her work involves collaborating with other experts such as architects, engineers, builders, and sound and video artists. Her partner, Gerard Willems, assists with the engineering and construction of many of her large scale projects.
