Blind Spot, 2008

Digital prints on paper (dimensions variable); single channel video 4” loop
Director’s Cut group exhibition, Plimsoll Gallery, University of Tasmania, January 2010. Made possible with assistance from the Australia Council for the Arts.

Blind Spot is from a larger body of work that consists of thirty images and a three channel video in its complete form. The work creates a type of visual code in which a range of images have been enciphered using half-tone dots of varying sizes. It aims to evoke a sense of tension associated with trying to ‘read’ or decipher the content of the images, which have been reduced to a minimal visual symbol – a black or ‘blind’ spot. Blind Spot is about is about a desire to know what cannot be known and to see what cannot be fully revealed. It reflects on the anxiety and insecurity that accompanies the denial of access to information or the inability to decipher it.
