3m x 65cm x 85cm

Voice 2001

Voice was commissioned by the State Library of Tasmania (now LINC Tasmania). The aim was to create a work that would enhance the visitor experience in the foyer of the headquarters building at 91 Murray Street Hobart, reflect the aims of the library, and 'disguise' a dominant structural column in the space. The work consists of a tower of coverless books wedged between stainless steel 'bookends' which are covered in lists of verbs associated with the transformative powers of books and reading. It extends into the ceiling, suggesting that the column of books and verbs runs into the floors above.
